The Vegas Golden Knights have signed an Olympic hero from Germany.
The season may be over for the Vegas Golden Knights, but they have not stopped making the news. On Monday, the team advertised an event to give back to their fans. General Manager George McPhee has also prepared to work early by signing Tomas Hyka and Stefan Matteau to contracts.
However, nothing about their unrestricted free agents at this time. No word just yet on the team’s stars such as David Perron and James Neal. Although, he did make come to an agreement on an Olympic hero from Germany.
On Tuesday, the Vegas Golden Knights have signed forward Brooks Macek to a one-year deal. The contract is worth an NHL average annual value of $650,000 and an AHL Base Salary of $175,000. Another strong depth signing for McPhee and the Golden Knights.
The 26-year old won the silver medal with Germany in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. His team came up just short in the gold medal game against the Olympic Athlete from Russia. In seven Olympic games, he notched two goals, two assists, and four points.
The Detroit Red Wings selected Macek in the sixth round way back in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He never appeared in an NHL or AHL contest for the franchise. Instead, he played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for five seasons.
The Golden Knights newest signing had an incredible 2017-18 with the Red Bull München. He led the DEL in goals with 26 during the campaign. He also registered 18 points and 44 assists in 50 games played.
Perhaps his most impressive accomplishment of the year was winning the DEL championship. In 17 postseason games, he scored eight goals, eight assists, and 16 points. An incredible showing by Macek set bells off for the Golden Knights brass to sign this kid.
This is a good depth signing by the Golden Knights. From watching his highlights, he looks like the Gerard Gallant type of player. Hard-working, likes to shoot the puck and never quits on the play. Additionally, he loves to play physical, and he’s not afraid to drop the gloves now and then.

All in all, I’m not sure where Brooks Macek fits on the Vegas Golden Knights as of now. I expect Macek to go down to the Golden Knights AHL affiliate Chicago Wolves, and play his first professional game in North America in 2018.
