Vegas Golden Knights Forward David Perron Defying All The Odds
The Vegas Golden Knights are getting serious contributions from David Perron.
Let’s face it; no one saw this coming from our Vegas Golden Knights. The expansion franchise is off to one of the best starts to an inaugural season. And it always seems like it’s a new hero each game which is very encouraging.
Obviously Marc-Andre Fleury and James Neal have carried the way so far, but there have been other players who have stepped up to the plate as well. Players you’d never thought would be making a difference such as Brendan Leipsic and Malcolm Subban. Defensemen Deryk Engelland and Luca Sbisa have been blessings in disguise as well. However, there is one player imparticular that has caught my eye with his recent play.
David Perron’s steady dose of work with his linemates Neal and Cody Eakin have paid off huge dividends for the Golden Knights. He’s probably one of the hardest workers on the entire team. Let’s go over some of his stats to back that statement up.
In five of the first six games, Perron has eclipsed the 18-minute mark meaning his Head Coach Gerard Gallant trusts him in every situation. He’s involved a lot in Neal’s success as well assisting on three of six James Neal’s goals. The chemistry between those two is something magical.
In six games, he scored at least one point in every game except for one. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native has also been starting to get some better looks on the power play as of late. In addition, Perron led his team to a victory on Tuesday night against Buffalo.
The 29-year old has done everything Gallant has asked. He’s versatile and can play both wing positions and puts a ton of shots on net. Perron already has 17 shots on goal which is good for second on the Golden Knights roster.

However, one thing that worries me about Perron is his durability. Sure, he played all 82 games for the St. Louis Blues last season, but he has a track record of concussions. The concussion history is a bit alarming, but he hasn’t seemed to be phased by any symptoms over the past two years now.
It’s doubtful that Perron will remain a line with Eakin and Neal for the remainder of the year, but I do see Perron flourishing in whatever role or line he’s on. He’s that type of player where you can slot him anywhere in the lineup, and he’ll just produce. He’s the perfect kind of player that Coach Gallant loves to use.

Overall, Perron is going to be a key player down the stretch for the Vegas Golden Knights. Whether if the Knights fall out of the race and trade Perron for picks or prospects, or keep him and use him to try and make a postseason push. Either way, you really can’t lose if you’re General Manager George McPhee who has done an excellent job thus far.
