The Peter DeBoer era is officially underway for the Vegas Golden Knights but the honeymoon period is over already.

With one win and one loss in two games behind the bench for the Vegas Golden Knights, the hard work is just about to start for DeBoer.

It starts on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins who, despite cooling off somewhat, are still one of the best teams in the NHL.

Then the real work starts.

More from Vegas Hockey Knight

Because, after tomorrow, the Golden Knights will get some time off due to the All-Star Break with their next game falling on Jan. 31, against the Carolina Hurricanes.

But, while the players will jet off to all kind of luxurious locations around the globe, DeBoer and his coaching staff will be getting down to work.

And that’s why it is imperative that the Golden Knights beat the Bruins and go into the All-Star break on a high.

Following what has been a first-half of the regular season plagued by inconsistency, the Golden Knights are locked in a five horse race for the Pacific Division title.

Whether you see the division as bad or just ultra competitive, the point remains the same in that Vegas is entrenched in a real battle and there is little margin for error.

Therefore, there will be no rest for the wicked over the bye week as DeBoer continues to get to know his coaching staff and his players, while putting in place his preferred systems and way of playing.

He made it clear at his opening media conference that the three-game block before the All-Star Break would be used to evaluate what he had at this disposal, and that investigation concludes tonight.

As a result, what better way to go into the bye than passing a real litmus test by beating the Boston Bruins and propelling themselves to the top of the Pacific?

It would be a perfect tonic to what has been a tough start to this long road trip with two losses and just one win, while filling that locker room with confidence before the players head off for the week.

Also, a win against what is an elite team in the Bruins would act as a statement to the rest of the NHL, while acting as an illustration to DeBoer of what he’s got to work with.

This team showed in flashes against both the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens what they are made of, and a positive outcome tonight will greatly aid DeBoer over the next week or so as he gets down to the nitty gritty of printing his fingerprints all over this hockey club.

dark. Next. Were the Golden Knights influenced by the Blues?

While it will be far from easy, beating the Boston Bruins in what would be a statement win would send the Vegas Golden Knights into the bye week on a high and lay the foundations for a strong push down the stretch.
